While preparing for the podcast, I got a call from one of my assistant producer, a high school senior.
“Papa Ray can you explain to me about the situation in Iran?” asked my curious and highly intelligent adopted/spiritual granddaughter.
I informed my assistant producer that it’s been 47 years of stress, inflation, arguments, deception, nuclear threats coming from Persia/Iran.
During those 47 years, countless Iranians were either, tortured, raped, mutilated, executed.
However there were others fortunate enough to escape via mass exodus from once a prosperous democratic country named Persia now Iran being run by oppressive dictators and mullahs.
I further explained to my young producer how this podcast host was witnessing history in the above written being played out in real time.
From my 1979 High School freshman year until college graduation (1992), I got to know & befriend Iranian refugees who came to the United States with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
I noticed that these group of people worked hard; pledged their allegiance to the United States; stood up for righteousness.
They demonstrated excellent boldness and told the truth about their fellow citizens back home: mostly losing their freedom, livelihood and sometimes their lives.
“I was never told nor taught about what really was going on in Iran,” replied my young assistant producer. “This is one of the reasons why I called you Papa Ray. Because I knew you would have, historic facts, stories, and personal history behind this event.”
“That’s one of the reasons why your mom took you out of the public school system,” replied the podcast host.
In a world where technology advances at lightning speed and cultural shifts happen overnight, many of us feel overwhelmed trying to keep up.
Whether you’re a parent, educator, community leader, or just someone eager to understand different generations, the challenge of bridging the gap remains.
This post will explore practical insights from a recent podcast episode by Ray Diggs II, focusing on how storytelling, history, and biblical wisdom can foster unity across ages and cultures. By the end, you’ll discover actionable ways to connect, learn, and grow together—no matter your age or background.
Why Bridging the Generational Gap Matters
The importance of understanding each other isn’t just an ideal, it’s a necessity for societal harmony. Ray Diggs II emphasizes that many conflicts, whether in families, communities, or nations, result from a lack of communication and knowledge about each other’s experiences. He highlights that storytelling rooted in history and spiritual truths can serve as a bridge. Recognizing the struggles and successes of previous generations—and contextualizing current events—can help us avoid repeating mistakes and foster resilience.
Key point:
Embracing shared stories creates empathy, compassion, and a sense of common purpose.
Lessons from History: The Power of Remembering the Past
Never Forget: History Repeats Itself. Ray underscores that forgetting historical struggles or ignoring past lessons invites repetition of catastrophic errors. He prompts us to see history as a teacher, not just a record—especially when it comes to nations like Iran. For example, the 1979 Iranian Revolution led to upheaval, revolutionizing their government, and sparking decades of oppression under the regime of Ayatollah Khomeini. Recognizing these patterns reminds us of that oppression, political unrest, and social upheavals are recurring themes worldwide.
Bridging Past and Present: The Iran Example Ray shares a personal story of explaining Iran’s history—coup, revolution, and the struggle for freedom—to his granddaughter. This highlights how sharing historical narratives can inform current understanding, especially when connected to biblical prophecy and God’s promises for justice and liberation.
Action step:
Make a habit of sharing relevant history with the younger generation to foster understanding and respect.
Spirit-Led Strategies: Incorporating Faith and Wisdom
The Biblical Mandate: Be a Watchman Drawing from Ezekiel 22 and 33, Ray highlights the biblical responsibility to “sound the alarm” for what’s happening around us. As modern watchmen and women, we’re called to stand in the gap, warn others, and guide them through spiritual and societal dangers. This involves staying informed, praying for discernment, and actively engaging in conversations about morality, justice, and social issues. It’s about acknowledging that spiritual warfare influences political and cultural events, such as Iran’s push for nuclear weapons or the rise of tyranny. The Power of Personal Stories & Faith Ray shares personal insights into biblical heroines like Esther—who risked her life to save her people—paralleling current struggles for freedom. These stories teach that courage, wisdom, and faith are vital for overcoming oppression and injustice.
Tip: Use spiritual stories and scriptures as foundational guides to motivate action and hope in difficult times.
Practical Steps to Bridge Generations and Embrace Wisdom
1. Promote Intergenerational Conversations Encourage dialogue that honors each generation’s perspective. Listening respectfully allows for mutual understanding. For example, Ray’s conversation with his granddaughter about Iran’s history demonstrates how sharing knowledge builds trust.
Tip:
- Organize family or community storytelling sessions, focusing on lessons learned and hopes for the future.
- Honor History and Cultural Heritage Teach younger generations about their roots, sacrifices, and successes.
- Celebrations like Purim, for instance, commemorate God’s protection and deliverance, inspiring unity and resilience.
Action:
Celebrate cultural and religious festivals as opportunities to teach history and reinforce identity.
4. Provide Access to Wisdom and Resources Encourage reading books on history, faith, and current events. Ray recommends resources like Mike Evans’ book on Iran’s history, emphasizing that informed knowledge leads to better decisions.
Suggestion:
Share authoritative books, documentaries, and credible news sources as part of ongoing education.
5. Pray and Act with Purpose Recognize that change starts with prayer and personal responsibility. Engaging in prayer for peace, wisdom, and justice fuels the effort to reflect biblical principles in real-world actions.
Call to Action:
Join community prayer groups, advocacy efforts, and educational initiatives that promote righteousness and freedom.
Building Greatness on the Foundations of Wisdom
Ray’s insights reveal that true strength comes from aligning ourselves with divine wisdom—character, integrity, and knowledge—more than talents or titles. Proverbs 19:20-21 remind us: “Hear counsel and receive instructions… that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. “This means cultivating humility and discernment, understanding that God’s counsel endures beyond human schemes.
Final thought:
Whether confronting political upheavals like those in Iran or personal challenges, humility, wisdom, and spiritual insight can guide us in making impactful, lasting change.
Conclusion: Embrace the Legacy of Wisdom and Faith
Building bridges across generations requires effort, humility, and a willingness to learn from history and Scripture. Sharing stories, praying for guidance, and acting with purpose can heal divides and foster a resilient, hopeful community. Next time you engage with someone from a different generation or cultural background, remember—you’re not just exchanging words; you’re exchanging life lessons rooted in faith and history.
Join the movement:
Incorporate storytelling, biblical wisdom, and informed action into your daily life. The future depends on how well we learn from and build upon the past.
